SoulBoard Pintail 48" Longboard - Smooth and Fun

The SoulBoard Pin is a fun, flexy all-around board that comes complete with decent hardware. It is perfect for beginners and soul-carvers alike, and is suitable for around town, as well as some moderately large hills.

Our first impression of the board was quite positive. The Pintail is quite narrow, which allows for a good amount of flex. The appearance of the board isn't really anything to write home about, although the laser-cut grip tape does look fairly sharp.

Technical Info - Specifications

The Soulboard Pin came equipped with Randal 150mm's, 70mm Kryptonics "Route 70" wheels, and standard abec 3 bearings. The turning radius of the board was actually fairly impressive, even though the Randal 150's are generally suited for longboards with a shorter wheelbase. The 7-ply maple has a good "kick-back" response, while also accomodating a decent amount of flex.

Our Impressions / Other Stuff

Sarah finds the SoulBoard to do just fine on moderate hills.

The SoulBoard Pintail is what I would call a "balance-board", figuratively. It is a balance between having a simple, comfortable ride for a beginner, while still posessing a unique, maneuverable feel and decent hardware for a more advanced rider. The deck itself is not anything special, altough the shape eliminates wheel-bite, and is narrow enough to be a decent downhill board if equipped with the right equipment.

The Soul Board can handle a fair amount of speed before it begins to feel unstable, but performing anything other than gradual carves at high speeds with the Randal 150's is somewhat dodgy. The board is really more of a campus cruiser or a general, all-purpose board.

Sarah gets ready to push off and see what this thing can do (below).

While not really bringing anything innovative or outstanding to the "longboard" table in terms of performance or construction, the Soul Board Pintail still holds its own as probably one of the best beginner boards around. It's not your average mainstream cookie-cutter deck with oversized skate trucks; it stands far above the others in its own category of beginner and all-purpose longboards.

We reccomend the Soul Board Pin to anyone beginning their "longboarding career", or to anyone looking for a fun, soulful form of transportation around town, or around the campus.

As an aside: Soul Boards manufactures some very high-end fiberglass composite boards and exotic hardwood boards that look as though they have a firm standing among the elite of the industry. LBD would be thrilled to try out one of these out in the near future...
